Travel in India: Where to Go Once Lockdown is Over?

The Himachal Adventure

In the winter, Himachal is cold and glorious, but summer makes it much more pleasant. Trekking is a great way to experience the beauty of Himachal. June to September is a great time to go trekking with over 270 trails to cover while you listen to Himachali music, relish the local food and explore the landscape of conifer trees, wild rapids, and snow-capped peaks.

Shimla and its pretty surroundings

To continue with your Himachal adventure, one of the places you must visit in Shimla. An old colonial town, Shimla boasts of beautiful backdrops with rivers, hills, and meadows. Also, called the “Queen of the Hills” at the elevation of 7467 feet above sea level. The hill station has attracted a multitude of people for generations. And, well connected by roads that offer a spectacular view of the scenic landscape. When in Shimla, you must visit the old churches, the very popular Mall Road, Scandal Point, and the highest point in Shimla known as Jakhu Hill. And while you are exploring the places, don’t forget to hop onto the Toy Train to complete your journey.

Drive across the East Coast Road  

If you love driving, then a 777km journey starting from Chennai to Kanyakumari awaits you. The East Coast Road stretches along the coastline of the Bay of Bengal. As you start the drive, you have the incredible azure blue ocean on one side and a host of activities for every traveller. Some of the places to see along the way are the Dakhinchitra, Tranquebar, Rameshwaram. This also comes with a bunch of activities you can partake in from drive-in movie theatres to surfing, paragliding and a few different water sports to quench your soul.

The Northeast trail

The north-Eastern part of India is one that is still being discovered by travellers all over the globe. The “Seven Sister” states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Nagaland have a lot to offer for the one who loves to travel. This part of the Indian subcontinent is home to a large number of forests and biodiversity not seen elsewhere in India. Lush tropical forests, hills and rivers along with a diverse set of cultures and people make the North East a traveler’s dream destination.

Goa beyond the beaches

If you thought Goa was all about beaches and parties, you are in for some revelations. Beyond the azure blue of the Arabian Sea, Goa boasts of beautiful Portuguese settlements. One such is the charming little town of Fontainhas which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the 16th-century Basilica of Bom Jesus built in baroque style.

As you move through the old Portuguese neighborhoods, don’t miss visiting the old mansions – Casa Araujo Alvares, Palácio do Deão, and Menezes Braganza Pereira House. Your next destination should be a trek to the Dudhsagar falls that gets its name from the milky white water that falls from a height of 310 meters.

Goa also has a rich biodiversity and you cannot miss some of the wildlife sanctuaries that make a great day trip like the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and more. End your trip with a visit to the spice plantations for insight and lesson into Goan life.
